As for me, in the first year of , I stood up to support and protect him.“Now I’m going to tell you what’s actually going to happen. Three more kings will rise in , and then a fourth will gain far more wealth than all the others. When he becomes powerful through his wealth, he’ll stir up everyone against the kingdom of .”Then a will rise, ruling with enormous power and doing whatever he wants.But as soon as he rises, his kingdom will be shattered and divided toward the — not going to his descendants, and not with the same power he had. His kingdom will be torn apart and given to others instead.The will grow strong, but one of his commanders will grow even stronger and will rule a domain greater than his.After some years they’ll form an alliance. The daughter of the king of the south will come to the to make a peace deal, but she won’t hold onto her power, and he won’t maintain his either. She’ll be handed over — along with her attendants, her father, and the one who supported her — during those times.But from a , someone will rise up in his place. He’ll come against the army of the king of the north, march right into his fortress, and deal with them as he pleases — he’ll overpower them.He’ll also carry off to Egypt their gods, their cast metal images, and their precious objects of silver and gold. For some years he’ll leave the king of the north alone.Then the king of the north will march into the realm of the king of the south but will retreat back to his own land.His sons will prepare for war, assembling a massive of forces. One of them will advance, sweeping through like a flood, and then come back and push the fight all the way to his fortress.The king of the south, enraged, will march out and fight the king of the north, who will raise a huge army — but that army will be handed over to the king of the south.When that army is swept away, he’ll be filled with . He’ll bring down tens of thousands but won’t use his advantage.The king of the north will come back, raising an army even bigger than before. After a number of years, he’ll advance with a massive force and a huge supply train.In those times, many will rise against the king of the south. will lift themselves up, trying to fulfill a vision — but they’ll fail.Then the king of the north will come, build , and capture a fortified city. The forces of the south won’t be able to stand — not even their best troops will have the strength to resist.The invader will do whatever he wants, and no one will be able to stand against him. He’ll establish himself in , with the power to destroy it completely.He’ll set his mind on coming with the full force of his kingdom, and he’ll make a peace arrangement. He’ll in marriage to the king of the south, intending to destroy the kingdom — but it won’t work out, and it won’t benefit him.Then he’ll turn his attention to the and capture many of them. But a military commander will put a stop to his arrogance — he’ll throw that arrogance right back at him.After that, he’ll turn back toward the fortresses of his own land, but he’ll and be seen no more.His successor will send out a through the , but within a few days he’ll be destroyed — though not in anger or in battle.In his place, a man will rise — someone they didn’t give royal honor to. He’ll slip in during a time of ease and seize the kingdom through .Overwhelming forces will be swept away before him and shattered — and so will a .After making an alliance with him, he’ll act deceitfully. He’ll rise to power with only a small group of people.During a time of ease, he’ll invade the richest parts of the province and do what none of his predecessors ever did — he’ll distribute plunder, loot, and wealth to his followers. He’ll scheme against fortified positions, but only for a time.He’ll stir up his strength and courage against the king of the south with a huge army. The king of the south will mobilize for war with an extremely large and powerful force, but he won’t be able to stand because plots will be devised against him. will destroy him. His army will be swept away, and many will fall dead.The two kings, with their hearts set on doing harm, will sit at the same table and lie to each other — but nothing will come of it, because .He’ll return to his own land with great wealth, but his heart will be set against . He’ll take action against it, then return to his own land.At the appointed time, he’ll invade the south again, but this time it won’t go like it did before.Ships from will come against him, and he’ll lose heart. Then he’ll turn back and vent his fury against the covenant that belongs to God. He’ll come back and show favor to those who abandon that covenant.His forces will rise up and desecrate . They’ll abolish and set up .Those who act wickedly against the covenant, he’ll corrupt even further with smooth words. But the people who will stand firm and take action. among the people will help many understand, though for a time they’ll fall by sword and flame, by captivity and plunder.When they fall, they’ll receive , though many will join them insincerely.Some of the wise will stumble, so that they can be until the time of the end — because it’s still set for its appointed time.The king will do whatever he wants. He’ll exalt and magnify himself above every god, and he’ll say outrageous things against the . He’ll succeed until is complete, because what’s been determined will be carried out.He’ll show no regard for the gods of his ancestors or for . He won’t regard any god, because he’ll magnify himself above them all.Instead, he’ll honor a — a god his ancestors never knew — honoring him with gold, silver, precious stones, and expensive gifts.He’ll attack the strongest fortresses with the help of a foreign god. Those who acknowledge him, he’ll load with honor — he’ll make them rulers over many and distribute land as a reward.At the , the king of the south will attack him. But the king of the north will storm against him with chariots, cavalry, and many ships. He’ll sweep through countries like a flood.He’ll invade , and many countries will fall. But will escape from his hand.He’ll extend his power over many countries, and won’t escape.He’ll gain control of Egypt’s treasures of gold and silver and all its valuable things. The and the will follow at his heels.But will alarm him, and he’ll march out in a great fury to destroy and completely annihilate many.He’ll pitch his royal tents between the sea and . But .
