Zechariah 6 in plain modern English. New Ground English Translation.

I looked up again, and there were four chariots coming out from between two mountains. The mountains were bronze.

The first chariot had red horses, the second black horses,

the third white horses, and the fourth dappled horses, all of them strong.

I said to the messenger who was talking with me, "What are these, sir?"

The messenger answered, "These are the four winds of heaven, going out from standing in front of the Lord of all the earth."

The chariot with the black horses heads for the land of the north. The white ones go out behind them, and the dappled ones head for the land of the south.

The strong ones came out straining to go and range over the earth. He said, "Go on, range over the earth." And they ranged over the earth.

Then he called to me and said, "Look, the ones heading for the land of the north have set my Breath at rest in the land of the north."

Yahweh's word came to me:

"Collect the gift from the exiles, from Heldai, Tobijah, and Jedaiah, who have come back from Babylon. Go that same day to the house of Josiah son of Zephaniah."

"Take the silver and the gold, make a crown, and set it on the head of Joshua son of Jehozadak, the head priest."

"Tell him: This is what Yahweh who commands armies says: Here is a man whose name is New Shoot. He will grow up out of his own ground, and he will build Yahweh's temple."

"He is the one who will build Yahweh's temple. He will carry the honor of it, and he will sit and rule on his throne. He will be a priest on that same throne, and between the two roles there will be a settled peace."

"The crown will stay in Yahweh's temple as a keepsake for Helem, Tobijah, Jedaiah, and Hen son of Zephaniah."

"People who live far away will come and work on Yahweh's temple, and then you will know that Yahweh who commands armies sent me to you. This will happen if you listen carefully to the voice of Yahweh your God."
