Psalms 82 in plain modern English. New Ground English Translation.

A psalm of Asaph. God stands in the great assembly of heaven, he delivers his verdict among the powerful ones:

"How long will you keep judging unjustly, showing favoritism to those who do wrong?"

"Stand up for the powerless and the orphan. Make sure the afflicted and the destitute get justice.

Rescue the powerless and the needy. Tear them from the grip of those who do wrong."

But they don't know anything. They don't understand. They wander around in darkness while the foundations of the earth are shaken loose.

I once said, "You are powerful ones, all of you, children of the Most High."

"But you will die like any other human. You will fall like every other ruler."

Rise up, God! Judge the earth yourself, because every nation belongs to you.
