The way a deer aches for flowing streams -- that is how my whole being aches for you, God.

My whole being thirsts for God -- for the living God. When will I finally come and stand in God's presence?

My tears have been my only food, day and night, while people keep asking me, "So where is your God?"

I pour out everything inside me when I remember this: how I used to walk with the crowd into God's house, leading them with shouts of joy and thankfulness -- a whole gathering celebrating together.

Why are you so crushed, my whole being? Why so restless inside me? Put your hope in God -- I will praise him again, my rescuer and my God.

My God, my whole being is crushed inside me. So I remember you from the land along the Jordan, from the peaks of Hermon, from Mount Mizar.

Deep calls out to deep at the roar of your waterfalls. All your breakers and waves have crashed over me.

During the day, Yahweh pours out his faithful love. At night, his song stays with me -- a prayer to the God of my life.

I say to God, my rock: "Why have you forgotten me? Why do I walk around grieving while my enemy crushes me?"
