Yahweh, my rock, deserves all praise — he trains my hands for battle, my fingers for war.

He is my unfailing love and my fortress, my stronghold and my rescuer, my shield — the one I take shelter behind. He subdues peoples under me.

Yahweh, what are human beings that you even notice them? What are mortals that you give them any thought?

A human life is just a breath — our days pass like a shadow drifting by.

Yahweh, tear open the sky and come down — touch the mountains and make them smoke.

Hurl your lightning and scatter them — shoot your arrows and throw them into panic.

Reach down from the heights — pull me out of the deep waters, rescue me from the grip of foreigners

whose mouths speak nothing but lies, whose right hands are raised in false oaths.

God, I will sing you a new song — on a ten-stringed harp I will make music for you,

you who give victory to kings, who rescued David, your servant, from the deadly sword.

Then our sons will be like strong young trees, fully grown in their youth. Our daughters will be like carved pillars, shaped to adorn a palace.

Our storehouses will be full, overflowing with every kind of provision. Our flocks will multiply by thousands, by tens of thousands in our fields.

Our cattle will be heavy with young. There will be no breach in our walls, no exile, no cry of distress in our streets.

Life is good for the people who have all this — life is good for the people whose God is Yahweh.
