Yahweh, remember David and all the hardship he endured.

How he swore an oath to Yahweh, made a solemn promise to the Mighty One of Jacob:

"I will not enter my own house, nor climb into my own bed — "

"I will not let my eyes close, nor let my eyelids rest — "

"until I find a place for Yahweh, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob."

We heard about it in Ephrathah; we found it in the fields of Jaar.

"Let us go to his dwelling; let us kneel before the place where he rests his feet."

Rise up, Yahweh, and come to your resting place — you and the chest that carries your strength.

Let your priests wear justice like a robe; let those devoted to you shout with joy.

For the sake of David, your servant, don't turn away from the one you've chosen to lead.

Yahweh swore an oath to David — a firm promise he will never take back: "I will set one of your own descendants on your throne."

"If your sons keep my covenant and the terms I will teach them, then their sons, too, will sit on your throne forever."

For Yahweh has chosen Zion; he wanted it as his home:

"This is my resting place, age after age. Here I will live, because this is what I wanted."

"I will heap her food supply with abundance; I will satisfy her poor with bread."

"I will clothe her priests in rescue, and those devoted to her will shout — really shout — with joy."

"There I will raise up a strong ruler from David's line; I have set up a lamp for the one I've chosen to lead."

"I will wrap his enemies in disgrace, but on his own head, his crown will shine."
