Yahweh spoke to Moses:

"Give these instructions to the Israelites: When you enter the land of Canaan, this is the territory that will be assigned to you as your permanent inheritance — the land of Canaan with its defined borders:

"Your southern boundary will run from the Wilderness of Zin along the border of Edom. On the east side, it will start at the southern end of the Dead Sea,

then turn south of the Scorpion Pass, continue to Zin, and go south of Kadesh-barnea. From there it will go to Hazar-addar and on to Azmon.

From Azmon the border will turn toward the Wadi of Egypt and end at the Mediterranean Sea.

"Your western border will be the coastline of the Mediterranean Sea. That will be your boundary on the west.

"Your northern boundary will run from the Mediterranean Sea to Mount Hor —

from Mount Hor, draw the line to Lebo-hamath, and the border will extend to Zedad.

The border will continue to Ziphron and end at Hazar-enan. This will be your northern boundary.

"For your eastern boundary, draw the line from Hazar-enan to Shepham.

The border will go down from Shepham to Riblah, on the east side of Ain, then continue downward along the eastern slope above Lake Kinneret.

Then the border will go down along the Jordan River and end at the Dead Sea. This will be your land, defined by its borders on every side."

Moses gave these instructions to the Israelites: "This is the land you will receive by lot as your inheritance. Yahweh has commanded that it be divided among the nine and a half tribes,

because the tribe of Reuben (by ancestral households), the tribe of Gad (by ancestral households), and the half-tribe of Manasseh have already received their inheritance.

These two and a half tribes received their inheritance on the east side of the Jordan River, across from Jericho, toward the sunrise."

Yahweh said to Moses,

"These are the men who will distribute the land to you: Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun.

Also appoint one leader from each tribe to help distribute the land.

These are their names: from the tribe of Judah — Caleb son of Jephunneh;

from the tribe of Simeon — Shemuel son of Ammihud;

from the tribe of Benjamin — Elidad son of Chislon;

from the tribe of Dan — a leader named Bukki son of Jogli;

from the descendants of Joseph: from the tribe of Manasseh — a leader named Hanniel son of Ephod;

and from the tribe of Ephraim — a leader named Kemuel son of Shiphtan;

from the tribe of Zebulun — a leader named Elizaphan son of Parnach;

from the tribe of Issachar — a leader named Paltiel son of Azzan;

from the tribe of Asher — a leader named Ahihud son of Shelomi;

and from the tribe of Naphtali — a leader named Pedahel son of Ammihud."

These are the ones Yahweh commanded to distribute the inheritance to the Israelites in the land of Canaan.
