Then Job answered:

What a help you have been to the man with no power! What a rescue for the arm with nothing left in it!

What advice you have given a man with no wisdom! What a flood of sound sense you have poured out!

Who helped you get those words out? And whose breath was that, coming out of you?

The shades of the dead shudder down under the waters, and everything that lives down there with them.

The world of the dead lies open and naked in front of him. The place of ruin has nothing to cover itself with.

He stretches the northern sky out over empty space. He hangs the earth on nothing at all.

He ties the water up inside his clouds, and the cloud never splits under the weight.

He shuts off the face of the full moon, drawing his cloud across it.

He scored a circle across the face of the water, right at the line where light gives out and dark begins.

The pillars of the sky shake. One word of rebuke and they stand there stunned.

With his own strength he churned the sea up. With his own understanding he broke Rahab to pieces.

His wind swept the sky clear and bright. His hand ran the fleeing serpent through.

And look — these are only the ragged edges of what he does. A whisper of a word is all we ever catch of him. The thunder of his full strength — who could stand to hear that?
