This is what Jeremiah the prophet told Baruch son of Neriah, after Baruch had written down on a scroll all the words Jeremiah dictated to him, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah:

"This is what Yahweh, the God of Israel, says about you, Baruch:

You said, 'I'm overwhelmed! Yahweh has piled pain on top of my suffering. I've worn myself out with groaning, and I can't find any relief.'

"This is what you should tell him: Yahweh says, 'Pay attention — what I built, I am about to tear down. What I planted, I am about to uproot. And this applies to the entire land.

And you're out here chasing great things for yourself? Stop chasing them. Because I am about to bring disaster on everyone,' declares Yahweh. 'But wherever you go, I will let you escape with your life — and that will be your reward.'"
