Jeremiah 30 in plain modern English. New Ground English Translation.

This is the message that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh:

This is what Yahweh, the God of Israel, says: "Write down everything I've told you in a scroll."

"Because the days are coming" — this is Yahweh's declaration — "when I will restore the fortunes of my people Israel and Judah. I will bring them back to the land I gave their ancestors, and they will take possession of it again."

These are the words Yahweh spoke about Israel and Judah.

This is what Yahweh says: "We have heard a cry of panic — terror, not peace."

"Ask this and think about it: Can a man go through labor pains? Then why do I see every strong man with his hands on his stomach like a woman giving birth, every face drained white?"

"What a terrible day that will be! There is nothing like it. It will be a time of deep trouble for Jacob — but he will be pulled out of it."

"On that day" — this is the declaration of Yahweh, Commander of angel armies — "I will shatter the yoke from their neck and snap their chains. Foreigners will never enslave them again."

"Instead, they will serve Yahweh their God and David their king, whom I will raise up for them."

"So don't be afraid, Jacob, my servant" — this is Yahweh's declaration. "Don't be shattered, Israel. Because I am going to rescue you from far away, your descendants from the land where they're held captive. Jacob will come back and be at rest, secure, with no one to make him afraid."

"Because I am with you" — this is Yahweh's declaration — "to rescue you. I will completely destroy all the nations where I scattered you, but you — I will not completely destroy. I will discipline you with justice, but I certainly won't leave you unpunished."

This is what Yahweh says: "Your wound is beyond healing, your injury is grievous."

"No one steps up to take your case. For your infected wound, there is no remedy, no healing for you."

"All your lovers have forgotten you; they don't look for you anymore. I struck you the way an enemy would, with cruel discipline, because your guilt was so enormous and your failures so many."

"Why do you cry out about your wound? Your pain has no cure. I did this to you because your guilt was so enormous and your failures so many."

"But — everyone who devours you will be devoured. Every one of your enemies, all of them, will go into captivity. Those who plunder you will be plundered, and everyone who loots you — I will give them over to be looted."

"Because I will restore your health and heal your wounds" — this is Yahweh's declaration — "even though they called you 'Outcast,' 'Zion that nobody cares about.'"

This is what Yahweh says: "I am going to restore the fortunes of Jacob's tents and show compassion on his homes. The city will be rebuilt on its ruins, and the fortress will stand where it should."

"Songs of thanksgiving will pour out from them, the sound of celebration. I will make them many — they won't be few. I will honor them — they won't be insignificant."

"Their children will be like they were in the old days, their community established and secure before me. I will punish everyone who oppresses them."

"Their leader will be one of their own; their ruler will rise from among them. I will bring him close, and he will approach me — because who would risk their life to approach me on their own?" — this is Yahweh's declaration.

"You will be my people, and I will be your God."

Look — a storm from Yahweh! Fury has gone out, a driving storm that will burst on the heads of the wicked.

Yahweh's burning anger will not turn back until he has finished — until he has accomplished what his heart intends. In the days to come, you will understand this clearly.
