So, my brothers and sisters who have been set apart -- who share in a heavenly calling -- fix your attention on Jesus, the emissary and chief priest of what we declare to be true.

He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just like Moses was faithful in all of God's household.

But Jesus has been considered worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house gets more honor than the house itself.

Every house is built by someone, but the one who built everything is God.

Now Moses was faithful as a servant in all of God's household, serving as a witness to the things that would be spoken later.

But The One was faithful as a son over God's household. And we are that household -- if we hold on to our confidence and the hope we are proud of.

So, as the Breath of God says: "Today, if you hear his voice,

don't harden your hearts like they did during the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness,

where your ancestors tested me and challenged me, and saw what I did for forty years.

That's why I was angry with that generation, and I said, 'Their hearts are always wandering off course. They have never understood my ways.'

So I made a solemn oath in my anger: 'They will never enter my rest.'"

Watch out, brothers and sisters -- make sure none of you develops a corrupt, untrusting heart that turns away from the living God.

Instead, encourage each other every single day -- as long as it's still called "today" -- so that none of you gets hardened by corruption's tricks.

We have become partners with The One -- if we hold firmly to the confidence we had at the beginning, all the way to the end.

As it says: "Today, if you hear his voice, don't harden your hearts like they did during the rebellion."

Now who were the ones who heard and rebelled? Wasn't it everyone Moses led out of Egypt?

And who was God angry with for forty years? Wasn't it the ones who failed him -- whose bodies dropped in the wilderness?

And who did he swear would never enter his rest? Wasn't it those who refused to trust him?

So we can see that they weren't able to enter because of their refusal to trust.
