Joseph was brought down to Egypt. Potiphar, an Egyptian official of Pharaoh and captain of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had brought him there.

Yahweh was with Joseph, and he became a man who succeeded at everything. He lived in the house of his Egyptian master.

His master saw that Yahweh was with him and that Yahweh made everything he did succeed.

Joseph found favor in Potiphar's eyes and became his personal attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his entire household and entrusted everything he owned to him.

From the moment Potiphar put Joseph in charge of his household and everything he owned, Yahweh blessed the Egyptian's house because of Joseph. Yahweh's blessing was on everything Potiphar had, both inside the house and out in the fields.

So Potiphar left everything he had in Joseph's hands. With Joseph in charge, he didn't worry about a single thing except what food to eat. Now Joseph was well-built and good-looking.

After a while, his master's wife noticed Joseph and said, "Sleep with me."

But he refused. He told his master's wife, "Look — with me here, my master doesn't concern himself with anything in the house. He's put everything he owns in my hands."

"No one in this house has more authority than I do. He hasn't kept anything from me except you, because you're his wife. How could I do something so deeply wrong and fail God like that?"

She kept pressuring Joseph day after day, but he refused to sleep with her or even spend time alone with her.

One day, he went into the house to do his work, and none of the household servants were inside.

She grabbed him by his garment and said, "Sleep with me!" But he left his garment in her hand and ran outside.

When she saw that he had left his garment in her hand and had run outside,

she called to the men of her household and told them, "Look at this! He brought in this Hebrew man to make fools of us! He came in here to sleep with me, but I screamed at the top of my lungs."

"When he heard me scream, he left his garment right here beside me and ran outside."

She kept his garment beside her until his master came home.

Then she told him the same story: "That Hebrew slave you brought into our house came to me to humiliate me."

"But when I screamed, he left his garment beside me and ran outside."

When his master heard his wife's account — "This is what your slave did to me" — he was furious.

Joseph's master took him and put him in the prison where the king's prisoners were held. And so Joseph was there in the prison.

But Yahweh was with Joseph and showed him faithful love. He gave Joseph favor in the eyes of the prison warden.

The prison warden put Joseph in charge of all the prisoners in the facility. Everything that happened there, Joseph managed it.

The prison warden didn't need to oversee anything under Joseph's care, because Yahweh was with him. Whatever Joseph did, Yahweh made it succeed.
