In the first year that Cyrus ruled Persia, Yahweh made good on what he'd spoken through Jeremiah. He stirred something in Cyrus, king of Persia, so that Cyrus sent out an announcement across his entire kingdom, putting it in writing too:

"This is what Cyrus, king of Persia, says: Yahweh, the God of the heavens, has handed me every kingdom on earth. And he's appointed me to build him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah."

"Anyone among you from his people — may his God be with him — let him go up to Jerusalem in Judah and build the house of Yahweh, the God of Israel. He is the God who is in Jerusalem."

"And anyone who's left over, wherever they're living as an outsider, the people of that place should support them with silver, gold, goods, and livestock — along with a voluntary offering for the house of God in Jerusalem."

Then the family leaders of Judah and Benjamin, along with the priests and Levites — everyone whose spirit God had stirred — got ready to go up and rebuild the house of Yahweh in Jerusalem.

Everyone around them strengthened their hands with objects of silver, gold, goods, livestock, and valuables — on top of everything given as voluntary offerings.

King Cyrus also brought out the items from the house of Yahweh that Nebuchadnezzar had taken from Jerusalem and placed in the temple of his gods.

Cyrus, king of Persia, had them brought out under the direction of Mithredath the treasurer, who counted them out for Sheshbazzar, the leader of Judah.

Here's the count: thirty gold dishes, one thousand silver dishes, twenty-nine knives,

thirty gold bowls, four hundred and ten matching silver bowls, and one thousand other items.

All together, there were five thousand four hundred items of gold and silver. Sheshbazzar brought all of these along when the exiles went up from Babylon to Jerusalem.
