In the eleventh year, on the first day of the month, the word of Yahweh came to me:

"Son of man, because Tyre said about Jerusalem, 'Good! The gateway of the nations is shattered — it swings open to me now. I'll grow rich from her ruins' —

so this is what Yahweh, the Lord of all, says: I am against you, Tyre. I will raise up many nations against you, the way the sea raises up its waves.

They will tear down the walls of Tyre and demolish her towers. I will scrape her soil down to bare rock.

She will become a place for spreading fishing nets in the open sea. I have spoken — this is the declaration of Yahweh, the Lord of all — and she will be plundered by the nations.

Her daughters on the mainland will be cut down by the sword, and they will know that I am Yahweh.

For this is what Yahweh, the Lord of all, says: Look — I am bringing Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, against Tyre from the north — the king of kings — with horses, chariots, cavalry, and a massive assembled army.

He will cut down your daughters on the mainland with the sword. He will build siege walls against you, pile up a ramp against you, and raise a wall of shields against you.

He will aim the blows of his battering rams against your walls and tear down your towers with his axes.

His horses will be so many that their dust will cover you. Your walls will shake from the thunder of cavalry, wagons, and chariots when he enters your gates — the way men pour through a breach in the wall.

With the hooves of his horses he will trample every street. He will cut down your people with the sword, and your mighty pillars will crash to the ground.

They will plunder your wealth and loot your merchandise. They will tear down your walls, demolish your luxurious houses, and throw your stones, your timber, and your very soil into the sea.

I will silence the noise of your songs, and the sound of your lyres will be heard no more.

I will make you a bare rock — a place for spreading fishing nets. You will never be rebuilt. For I, Yahweh, have spoken. This is the declaration of Yahweh, the Lord of all.

This is what Yahweh, the Lord of all, says to Tyre: Won't the coastlands tremble at the sound of your collapse, when the wounded groan, when slaughter rages inside you?

Then all the princes of the sea will step down from their thrones, remove their robes, and strip off their embroidered garments. They will clothe themselves in trembling — they will sit on the ground, shaking without end, horrified at what happened to you.

They will raise a lament over you and say: How you have vanished from the seas, you famous city, once so mighty on the ocean — you and your people who spread their terror over everyone on the mainland.

Now the coastlands tremble on the day of your fall. The islands in the sea are terrified by your end.

For this is what Yahweh, the Lord of all, says: When I make you a desolate city, like cities where no one lives, when I bring the deep ocean up over you and the great waters cover you,

then I will bring you down with those who descend into the pit, to the people of long ago. I will make you live in the underworld — in the ancient ruins below — with those who go down into the pit, so that you will never again be inhabited or stand in the land of the living.

I will bring you to a horrifying end, and you will be no more. You will be searched for, but you will never be found again. This is the declaration of Yahweh, the Lord of all.
