Exodus chapter 29

“Here’s what you need to do to [qadash] to serve me as : Take a young bull and two rams that have nothing wrong with them,and — both flatbread mixed with olive oil and thin wafers brushed with olive oil. Make these from fine wheat flour.Put them in a basket and bring them in the basket, along with the bull and the two rams.Bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance of the [ohel mo’ed] and wash them with water.Then take the garments and dress Aaron in the tunic, the robe for the , the vest [ephod] itself, and the . Fasten the woven sash of the vest around him.Place the turban on his head and attach to it .Then take the , pour it on his head, and anoint him.Then bring his sons forward and dress them in tunics.Tie sashes around Aaron and his sons and put headbands on the sons. The priesthood belongs to them as a [chuqqah]. This is how you will [male’ yad] Aaron and his sons.“Bring the bull to the front of the meeting tent, and have Aaron and his sons the bull’s head.Slaughter the bull in Yahweh’s presence at the entrance of the meeting tent.Take some of the bull’s and put it on the horns of the with your finger, then pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar.Then take all the fat that covers the internal organs, the covering over the liver, and both kidneys with the fat on them, and .But the bull’s meat, its hide, and its dung — burn those outside the camp. This is a [chattat].“Then take one of the rams, and have Aaron and his sons place their hands on its head.Slaughter the ram, collect its blood, and splash it against all sides of the altar.Cut the ram into pieces, wash its internal organs and legs, and arrange the pieces on the altar with its head.Then burn the whole ram on the altar. It’s an [olah] to Yahweh — a [re’ach nichoach], a fire-gift to Yahweh.“Then take the second ram, and have Aaron and his sons place their hands on its head.Slaughter the ram, take some of its blood, and put it on the tip of Aaron’s , on the thumb of his , and on the big toe of his . Then put blood on the tips of his sons’ right ears, the thumbs of their right hands, and the big toes of their right feet. Splash the rest of the blood against all sides of the altar.Take some of the blood from the altar and some of the anointing oil and sprinkle it on Aaron and his garments, and on his sons and their garments. Then he and his garments will be set apart, along with his sons and their garments.“Take the fat from the ram — the fat tail, the fat covering the internal organs, the covering over the liver, both kidneys with their fat, and the right thigh — because this is the ram for the [millu’im],and one round loaf of bread, one flatbread made with oil, and one wafer from the basket of bread made without yeast that’s in Yahweh’s presence.Put all of this in the hands of Aaron and his sons and have them wave it as a [tenufah] before Yahweh.Then take them from their hands and burn them on the altar on top of the ascending offering as a soothing aroma before Yahweh. It’s a to Yahweh.Take the breast of the installation ram for Aaron and wave it as a wave offering before Yahweh. This will be your portion.“Keep for God the breast that was waved and the thigh that was lifted up as a [terumah], taken from the installation ram, both Aaron’s portion and his sons’ portion.This will belong to Aaron and his sons as their [choq] from the Israelites, because it’s a contribution — it’s the contribution the Israelites will give from their [shelamim] — their contribution to Yahweh.“Aaron’s clothes, the ones kept for God, will be passed down to his descendants after him, to be worn when they’re anointed and installed.The son who takes his place as priest and enters the meeting tent to serve in must wear them for seven days.“Take the installation ram and cook its meat in .Aaron and his sons will eat the ram’s meat and the bread from the basket at the entrance of the meeting tent.They’ll eat these things that were used to [kippur] when they were installed and set apart. But no outsider may eat them, because they belong to God.If any of the installation meat or bread is left over until morning, burn the leftovers. It must not be eaten, because it belongs to God.“Do everything for Aaron and his sons exactly as I’ve commanded you, taking seven days for the installation.Offer a bull as a failure-offering each day to make things right. Cleanse the altar by making things right for it [kippur], and anoint it to set it apart.For seven days, make things right for the altar and keep it for God. Then the altar will , and anything that touches it will belong to him too.“Here’s what you’ll offer on the altar regularly: two one-year-old lambs every day, without exception.Offer one lamb in the morning and the other at .With the first lamb, offer two quarts of fine flour mixed with one quart of pressed olive oil, and one quart of wine as a [nesekh].Offer the second lamb at twilight with the same grain offering and drink offering as in the morning — a soothing aroma, a fire-gift to Yahweh.“This will be a regular ascending offering through all your generations, at the entrance of the meeting tent before Yahweh. That’s where I’ll meet with you and speak to you.That’s where I’ll meet with the Israelites, and my [kavod] will make that place my own.I will the meeting tent and the altar . I will also set Aaron and his sons apart to serve me as priests.I will the Israelites and be their God.They’ll know that I am Yahweh their God, who brought them out of Egypt so that I could live among them. I am Yahweh their God.”
