Listen to this, you cows of Bashan up on the hill of Samaria, you who squeeze the poor and grind down the ones who have nothing, you who say to your husbands, "Bring us another drink."

The Master Yahweh has sworn by himself, the one like no other: the days are coming for you when they will haul you away with hooks, the last of you with fishhooks.

You will go out through the broken walls, each one of you straight ahead, and you will be thrown out toward Harmon, declares Yahweh.

I sent a plague against you the way I sent one against Egypt. I killed your young men with the sword while your horses were led away. I made the stink of your camp rise into your own noses, yet you did not come back to me, declares Yahweh.

I overturned some of you the way God overturned Sodom and Gomorrah, and you were a burning stick pulled out of the fire, yet you did not come back to me, declares Yahweh.

So this is what I will do to you, Israel. And because I am going to do this to you, get ready to meet your God, Israel.

Look at him: the one who shapes the mountains and makes the wind, who tells a human being what is on his mind, who turns the dawn into darkness and walks the high ridges of the earth. Yahweh, God who commands armies, is his name.
