Paul, an ambassador of the One, Jesus, by God's will — sent to announce the promise of limitless life that comes through the One, Jesus —

To Timothy, my dear child: undeserved kindness, mercy, and peace from God the Father and the One, Jesus, our Master.

I'm grateful to God — the God I serve with a clear conscience, the way my ancestors did — as I constantly remember you in my prayers, night and day.

I remember your tears, and I long to see you so I can be filled with joy.

I'm reminded of your genuine trust — the kind that first lived in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice. And I'm convinced it lives in you too.

That's why I'm reminding you to fan into flame the gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you.

Because God didn't give us a spirit of fear. He gave us power, love, and a sound mind.

So don't be ashamed to speak up about our Master. And don't be ashamed of me, his prisoner. Instead, join me in suffering for the good news, powered by God.

He's the one who rescued us and called us to a life set apart — not because of anything we did, but because of his own purpose and undeserved kindness. He gave us this in the One, Jesus, before time even began.

But now it's been made visible through the appearing of our rescuer, the One, Jesus — who destroyed death and brought limitless life and immortality to light through the good news.

This is the good news I was appointed to announce — as a herald, an ambassador, and a teacher.

That's exactly why I'm suffering like this. But I'm not ashamed, because I know the one I've put my trust in, and I'm convinced he's able to guard what I've handed over to him until that day.

Hold on to the pattern of trustworthy words you heard from me, with the trust and love that come from being in the One, Jesus.

Guard the good thing that was handed over to you — guard it through the Breath of God who lives in us.

You already know that everyone in the province of Asia turned away from me — including Phygelus and Hermogenes.

May the Master show mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, because he often refreshed me and wasn't ashamed of my chains.

In fact, when he arrived in Rome, he searched hard for me until he found me.

May the Master grant him mercy from the Master on that day. And you know better than anyone how much he helped me in Ephesus.
