Then King David said to the entire assembly, "My son Solomon — the one God has chosen — is young and inexperienced, and this project is massive. This palace isn't for a human being — it's for Yahweh God."

"With everything I have, I've prepared for the house of my God: gold for what needs gold, silver for silver, bronze for bronze, iron for iron, wood for wood, onyx stones, stones for settings, antimony, stones of various colors, every kind of precious stone, and marble — tons of it."

"And beyond that, because I've set my heart on the house of my God, I'm giving from my own personal treasure of gold and silver to the house of my God — on top of everything I've already provided for this sacred house:"

"three thousand talents of gold — Ophir gold — and seven thousand talents of refined silver, for overlaying the walls of the buildings,"

"gold for gold work and silver for silver work, and for everything made by craftsmen. Now — who is willing to give generously to Yahweh today?"

Then the leaders of the families, the leaders of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and hundreds, and the officials in charge of the king's work gave willingly.

They gave for the service of the house of God: five thousand talents and ten thousand darics of gold, ten thousand talents of silver, eighteen thousand talents of bronze, and a hundred thousand talents of iron.

Anyone who had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the house of Yahweh, under the care of Jehiel the Gershonite.

The people celebrated because their leaders had given so willingly, because they had given to Yahweh with a whole heart. And King David was overjoyed.

David praised Yahweh in front of the entire assembly. David said: "Yahweh, God of Israel our father — may you be praised from everlasting to everlasting."

"Yours, Yahweh, is the greatness, the power, the beauty, the endurance, and the splendor — because everything in heaven and on earth is yours. Yours, Yahweh, is the kingdom, and you are lifted up as head over everything."

"Wealth and honor come from you, and you rule over everything. In your hand are power and strength, and it's in your hand to make anyone great and to give strength to all."

"And now, our God, we thank you and praise your magnificent name."

"But who am I, and who are my people, that we could give so generously like this? Because everything comes from you, and we've only given back to you what came from your own hand."

"Because we are strangers in front of you, and temporary residents — just like all our ancestors were. Our days on earth are like a shadow, and there's no hope of lasting."

"Yahweh our God, all this abundance that we've gathered to build you a house for your set-apart name — it all came from your hand, and all of it belongs to you."

"I know, my God, that you examine the heart, and you take pleasure in integrity. With an upright heart I've given all of this willingly, and now I've watched your people who are here give to you joyfully and willingly."

"Yahweh, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel our ancestors — keep this desire and these thoughts in the hearts of your people forever, and direct their hearts toward you."

"And give my son Solomon a whole heart to keep your commands, your instructions, and your laws, and to carry out everything needed to build the palace that I've prepared for."

Then David said to the entire assembly, "Now praise Yahweh your God!" And the entire assembly praised Yahweh, the God of their ancestors. They bowed low and paid honor to Yahweh and to the king.

The next day they offered sacrifices to Yahweh and presented entirely-burned offerings to Yahweh: a thousand bulls, a thousand rams, a thousand lambs, along with their drink offerings, and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel.

They ate and drank in Yahweh's presence that day with great joy. Then they made Solomon son of David king a second time, and they anointed him before Yahweh as ruler, and Zadok as priest.

Then Solomon sat on Yahweh's throne as king in place of his father David. He prospered, and all Israel obeyed him.

All the leaders, the warriors, and all of King David's sons pledged their loyalty to King Solomon.

Yahweh made Solomon extraordinarily great in the eyes of all Israel, and gave him royal splendor that no king of Israel before him ever had.

David son of Jesse ruled over all Israel.

The total time he ruled over Israel was forty years — seven years in Hebron and thirty-three years in Jerusalem.

He died at a good old age, full of days, wealth, and honor. And his son Solomon became king in his place.

along with all the details of his reign, his power, and the events that affected him, Israel, and all the kingdoms of the surrounding lands.
