After this, David defeated the Philistines and brought them under his control. He took Gath and its surrounding towns from Philistine hands.

He also defeated Moab, and the Moabites became subject to David and brought him tribute.

David also defeated Hadadezer king of Zobah, toward Hamath, as Hadadezer was going to establish his control along the Euphrates River.

David captured a thousand of his chariots, seven thousand cavalry, and twenty thousand foot soldiers. He hamstrung all but a hundred of the chariot horses.

When the Arameans of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David struck down twenty-two thousand of them.

David then stationed garrisons in Aram of Damascus, and the Arameans became subject to David and brought him tribute. Yahweh gave David victory wherever he went.

David took the gold shields that Hadadezer's officers carried and brought them to Jerusalem.

From Tibhath and Cun, cities belonging to Hadadezer, David took a huge quantity of bronze. Solomon later used it to make the bronze basin, the pillars, and the bronze equipment for the temple.

When Tou king of Hamath heard that David had defeated the entire army of Hadadezer king of Zobah,

he sent his son Hadoram to King David to ask about his well-being and to congratulate him on fighting and defeating Hadadezer — because Hadadezer had been at war with Tou. Hadoram brought with him all kinds of articles made of gold, silver, and bronze.

King David dedicated these to Yahweh, along with the silver and gold he had carried off from all the nations — from Edom, Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines, and Amalek.

Abishai son of Zeruiah struck down eighteen thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt.

He stationed garrisons in Edom, and all the Edomites became subject to David. Yahweh gave David victory wherever he went.

David ruled over all Israel, administering justice and doing what was right for all his people.

Joab son of Zeruiah was commander of the army. Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was the royal recorder.

Zadok son of Ahitub and Ahimelech son of Abiathar were priests. Shavsha was the royal secretary.

Benaiah son of Jehoiada was in charge of the Kerethites and Pelethites. And David's sons held the most senior positions at the king's side.
